Where is my data stored?

On your device, in the app's secure local storage. Boat Story never uploads your boat's records to any server of ours — your data is as private as the photos on your phone.

How do I back up my data?

Boat Story backs up automatically and syncs to your private iCloud when your device is signed in, so your records survive a reinstall or a new phone. You can also back up or restore manually any time from Settings → Backup, or export a JSON file you keep yourself.

How do the maintenance schedules work?

When you add a boat, Boat Story applies a built-in schedule matched to its type — engine-hour services like oil and impellers, seasonal jobs like winterization and commissioning, and safety expiries like flares. Logging a service with the matching name marks it done. Disable any task that doesn't apply.

Are the intervals manufacturer data?

They're standard marine-maintenance recommendations, not engine-manufacturer service data. Your engine manual, surveyor, and local conditions (salt vs fresh, climate) win whenever they disagree.

How do engine hours work?

Engine hours are the marine odometer. Enter your hour-meter reading when you add the boat and when you log services; hour-based tasks (like 100-hour oil changes) compute their due dates from your actual usage.

Can I track more than one boat?

The free version tracks one boat. Boat Story Pro — a one-time purchase, not a subscription — unlocks unlimited boats plus reports and advanced insights.
